Since the major overhaul of the Skilled Migration system in late 2023, New Zealand now operates a dual-track model combining the Green List with a points-based system, with greater focus in 2025 on:

• Genuine employment contracts and competitive salary levels

Current Main Skilled Migration Pathways:

1. Green List Pathway

• For occupations on the official Green List (e.g., Registered Nurse, Construction Project Manager, Software Developer)

• Requires a valid job offer from an approved employer

• Eligible to apply for residence after 2 years of work

• Some highly critical roles qualify for a fast-track residence application after 6 months in New Zealand
  
  

2. Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) + Points-Based Residence Pathway

• Requires a full-time job offer from an Accredited Employer

• Salary must meet or exceed the median wage (NZD $31.61/hour in 2025)

• Applicants must meet points threshold (minimum 6 points) based on qualifications, work experience, English ability, and age

• Points factors include salary level, local or recognized overseas qualifications, work years and skill shortage level, and AEWV work experience
  
  

3. Residence Pathway for AEWV Holders

• For applicants who have held an AEWV and worked continuously in New Zealand for 2+ years

• Demonstrate job stability and good conduct

• Eligible to apply for residence through the standard points system
